Abigail Ross Hopper, President and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), announced her decision to step down effective January 30, 2026, after nearly nine years leading the organization. In her open letter, Hopper reflects on the significant growth and transformation of the U.S. solar industry during her tenure. When she began in 2017, the industry was emerging with 36 gigawatts (GW) of capacity and just over 1 million residential solar customers. Today, the industry boasts over 255 GW of capacity and more than 5.5 million residential customers, with the U.S. rising to the third largest solar manufacturing economy globally. Hopper credits this progress to collective determination, successful navigation of policy challenges, and historic policy victories that have laid a strong foundation for future growth. Beyond market expansion, Hopper emphasizes the industry's commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and accountability.
